Instructor Training in the Classroom and the Clinic

Was there a certain instructor who made a big impact on you as you learned how to be a beauty professional? Now that you have some experience, you could become the instructor that future students will remember as they pursue their own beauty education. Our Instructor program is designed to train people like you in the basics of cosmetology instruction. This is accomplished through classroom work and practical skill development in the student clinic. We are dedicated to your success!

Our curriculum blends theory and practical cosmetology by using a four-step teaching plan. Various teaching aids are used throughout the course, including textbooks, audio-visual aids, and demonstrations. Clinic floor work, record preparation, and Washington law are also part of the curriculum. Student instructors will need to demonstrate their theory of teaching through practical demonstrations and conducting theory classes. The instructor course prepares you to sit for the State exam, so you can go on to receive your instructor license.

Flexible scheduling options at our Yakima, WA beauty school could make it possible for you to achieve your dream career as a cosmetology instructor! We know that some students prefer a full-time, 30-hour/week schedule, while others juggle work and other responsibilities with our part-time, 20-hour/week schedule. Either way, you could benefit from the experience of our dedicated instructors as they teach you the skills and knowledge you need to be an instructor in a beauty school.

Full-time students could complete the program in as little as 17 weeks, and part-time students could complete it in as few as 25 weeks.

Online learning has a lot of advantages. Log in at home, and complete up to 45% of your instructor training through CIMA by Milady. This allows you to meet some of your requirements online, while the rest of the requirements are completed in-person at our Yakima, WA campus.

How much does it cost to be in the instructor program?

Tuition for the Instructor program and Instructor 45% Distance Learning program is $7,000.

Is financial aid available?

Financial aid is available to those who qualify. The financial aid process begins with you filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Contact us with any questions relating to financial aid.

Can I work while attending the instructor program?

We offer flexible scheduling, so you may be able to fit the instructor program into your work schedule. We offer full-time and part-time schedules, or you could choose a 45% distance learning course. Many of our students enjoy the flexibility of working while attending beauty school.

What are the prerequisites for the instructor program?

You must be a licensed professional in the beauty field that you intend to teach. For instance, if you wish to teach cosmetology, you need to have a current cosmetology license.

Can I work at Elite CBS Academy after graduation?

We have hired graduates of our instructor program in the past, and we think this is a great benefit for both our school and our students! However, we cannot guarantee that every graduate of our program will be hired. Completing the instructor program allows you to apply for instructor positions at other beauty schools. We will work with you to help you achieve your goals, no matter where you decide to go with your instructor license.

If you wish to take the next step toward becoming a beauty school instructor, we encourage you to check out our admissions requirements:

Applicants must hold a current license as a practitioner in the field in which they wish to teach.
Applicant must be 17 years of age or older.
Applicant must provide proof of secondary education, such as a diploma, GED certificate, an official transcript of secondary school completion, or a state certification of homeschool completion.
Foreign high school diplomas need to have a validity and equivalence report sent to us via U.S. mail or email.
In the absence of the above documentation, the applicant must take and pass an approved ability-to-benefit test administered by an approved Independent Test Administrator.
Applicant must complete an application for enrollment.
